Nine Mile Creek - Mapwork

In interpreting the topographic and aerial maps of Nine Mile Creek, we found that this area was mainly an agricultural area, with the bulk of the area from Otisco Lake to our monitoring site being a gently sloping to moderately sloping area. The area surrounding Otisco Lake is much steeper and the agricultural areas above the lake provide nitrate and phosphate runoff for the lake area that then is carried downstream into our monitoring site. There are not really any other land uses that impact the stream up to this point - the major land use impacts occur downstream further, between the village of Camillus and the location where Nine Mile enters Onondaga Lake. This is especially apparent on the aerial view of the area, as the industrial sites are easy to see.
